Titeuf

By Zep

A street urchin with a tuft of hair every bit as expressive as the wings on Astérix's helmet, Titeuf falls within the genre of humorous comics, from "Max und Moritz" to "Mafalda", which use children as a comic springboard. But the stories created by Zep stand out from all the others by a highly realistic portrayal of the world of primary schools, where children broach all questions in their conversations with the logic, language and sensibility that are characteristic of their age. Some words and serious issues such as death or sexuality are treated or mistreated by kids who are always wilier and more ingenious than their parents might think. The perennial gap between the world of children and that of adults as well as their real and supposed interpretations are an inexhaustible source of gags that always have the right ring about them. essay
